Germination: Soak seeds for 24 hours in lukewarm water. Sow 2 cm with coir or sowing mix + sand or perlite. Keep bright and constantly moist but not wet. Germination takes 3-6 weeks.
A medium-sized tree from southeastern Africa with sickle-shaped, glossy, leathery leaves that are red when young and small greenish flowers followed by bright red, plum-sized, edible fruits.
Fruits are somewhat sour and popular mostly for making jams and jellies.
Parts of the plant are also used in traditional medicine, including a preparation from the roots which is thought to relieve the effects of sorcery.
