Garlic Chives grow up to 12" tall and produce attractive white flowers, great for your herb garden! Thin, flat leaves with a nice garlic flavor are used to add that hint of garlic to sauces, dips, salads, vegetables, etc. Seed stems are also harvested and used in oriental dishes. 80 to 90 days for leaf harvest and 150 to 170 days for seed stems. Moderately hardy perennial. Mulch where temperatures are -10 degrees or below. Average water needs. Self sows freely, deadhead if volunteer seedlings are not desired. Commonly use : Harvested for their taste, they are milder than most onions. They may be cooked or used raw as a part of salads, salsas, or Asian recipes. Diced scallions are used in soup, noodle and seafood dishes, as well as sandwiches, curries or as part of a stir fry. In many Eastern sauces, the bottom half-centimetre (quarter-inch) of scallion roots is commonly removed before use. In Vietnam, Welsh onion is important to prepare d?a hành (fermented onions) which is served for T?t, the Vietnamese New Year.
