The cup-shaped intense red flower, up to 2" across, has 6 petals - 3 inner and 3 outer - which are crinkled on the outer edges with purplish-black centers. It is a branching plant with leaves deeply cut and the edges usually toothed. 2 - 2-1/2 feet high. Blooms MARCH - JULY. Grows well with other wildflowers. Can be used in pastures, roadsides, hillsides, meadows, and wildflower and floral gardens.
