Cranberry fruit are true berries. Fruit size varies considerably, but typically fruit are 3/4 to 1 inch long by about 1/2 inch in diameter. Ripe fruit are a deep red to mahogany color. Color is confined to the skin and outer cell layers. The interior of the fruit is cream colored. The fruit contains four large hollow seed cavities in the interior and each cavity contains numerous small brown seeds. Because of the interior cavities cranberry fruit float.
