Beach Plum (Prunus Maritima) The Beach Plum is a species of plum native to the Atlantic coast of North America. It is extremely popular in Cape Cod and other beach areas. The Beach Plum thrives in sand dunes and coastal environments. It is a deciduous shrub that can reach heights of 3 to 12 feet tall. The Beach Plum is an edible plum popular in jellies and jams. Soil Type: Salt tolerant and cold hardy. Prefers full sun and well-drained soils. Zones: 3 to 6 Germination Range: 70-90% Stratification Requirement: 30-60 days warm stratification followed by 90-120 days cold moist stratification. Soak seeds in room temperature water for 48 hours before the warm stratification. Change the water after 24 hours.
