P. manicata bears saucer-shaped, bright red flowers, white at the bases, with short blue and white coronas. Produces glossy, deep green fruit, to 2 inches long. This evergreen to semi-evergreen vine dies back to the ground in colder areas, but can remain if well mulched or planted in a sunny location that rarely, if ever, freezes. Leaves are five-lobed and flowers are slightly smaller, but with the same stunningly beautiful flower and edible fruit. Fruit may be edible, though one source says it can be toxic probably when unripe. Fruit is fragrant, smelling like a cross between the purple passion fruit and banana passion fruit. Red Passion Vines will attract butterflies, hummingbirds, and a lot of visual attention.
