Squash Summer Winter Heirloom TATUME 50 SEEDS Round Calabasita Mexican Zucchini
45-60 DAYS. Tatume is a summer squash popular in Mexico and Texas, round/oval med-dark green to yellow fruits with faint stripes. 5-7" (13-18cm) in diameter. 'Tatume' fruit can be harvested and eaten young (at about 45 days) as a summer-type squash.
At this "summer" stage, harvest the green, round to oval fruits when they are about the size of a baseball. They are unusually firm for a summer squash and have a fine flavor. Leave them on the vine as a winter squash and they will mature to a diameter of six to eight inches and golden-yellow in color.
Firm, fine flavor with very vigorous spreading vines. It is not uncommon for this squash to send out vines 10' to 12' in length. Each node on a vine can root and send out other vines.
Descriptions from other folks: "Slightly oblong, light green-grey skin, meaty, nutty flesh. Can be allowed to mature on the vine for a winter squash." "They are firmer when cooked, and sweeter. They are great diced, sauteed with onion, then scrambled in eggs. A high fiber, low calorie very filling breakfast, with a side of refried beans and a dollop of salsa."
