Sweet William Dianthus Barbatus is native to Europe and adapted to all regions of the United States. It has an attractive, 18 inches dome of a myriad of beautiful flower colors. The brilliant little flowers have fringed petals of red, pink, purple or violet. The flowers are very sweetly scented.
Sweet William Dianthus Barbatus is technically a biennial, but reseeds itself for flowers year after year, so it is a biennial which acts as a perennial by re-seeding itself. Shearing spent blossoms will encourage blooms for another year. The plant makes a nice cut flower with a vase life of 7 to 10 days. The plant is easy to grow. The plant is attractive to bees, butterflies and birds. The plant is one of the best, longest lasting cut flowers available.
