Biennial in USDA zones 2-10 (foliage the first year, flowers the second year). Blooms in late spring. Full sun. 12-20" tall and wide. 'Double Blend' Sweet William has 1/2" flowers in densely packed 3"-5" packed flattened heads. Colors range from white, pink, rose, red, and purple to bi-colors. Prized as a cut flower and spring bulb cover it blooms for 4 weeks and is excellent for filling in the gaps between the time your spring bulbs flower and your annuals begin to bloom. One of the best, longest lasting cut flowers available! Easily reseeds, and is always a garden guest. Shearing spent blossoms will encourage blooms for another year. Prefers light, sandy, well-drained, alkaline soil. Unlike other Dianthus varieties, Sweet William prefers a rich soil. Add an all purpose fertilizer to soil before planting. Requires moisture, but soil should be slightly dry. Do not over water. Shearing off faded blooms will encourage plant to return the following year. Mulch plants in winter. Easy to grow from seed!
